![]() This game’s dialogue and choices are great!Īnd then suddenly we’re on the boat leaving the island and… everyone’s okay? Apparently so! I SAVED EVERYONE!!!Īnd this nice moment with a final photo following a possible last scare (Oh no you don’t game, Ren was just repeating the book phrases to Alex because she was sleeping earlier, he was obviously saying it to the rest of the team just as you we woke up!) and it’s epilogue time. The ghosts say that Alex cannot change the past, but I still made sure to follow Mirror!Alex’s advice here, just in case (To have Michael decide his path in life for himself).Īnd then, more time shenanigans… and it’s ME! What’s my username doing right there over Alex? I’M Mirror!Alex!? I told Alex the same things the mirror told me, and the past/actual!Alex’s responses were exactly the same ones I did earlier I’m sure. Then it cuts away, and one final hallucination occurs. Would I not have been able to do that if I didn’t find that letter? Alex wouldnt’ve known it otherwise I think… I’m starting to think that I do not do well in making timed video game decisions under pressure when the solution is not obvious…įortunately, diplomacy has not completely failed, and I’m able to talk them down by letting them know they’ve been remembered and name-dropping a name that I found in one of the hidden letters. “SO, GETTING A HEAD START ON SEALING US IN ARE YOU? NO MORE TALK!” the ghosts, paraphrased. I make some progress with negotiations, but then get a reminder that we’re running out of time to make a choice, so I start tuning the radio just to be safe, zero in on one of the frequencies, and… ![]() That’s not what I’m here for though, I’m here to save everyone! Heck, maybe I can negotiate with it. So now it’s Alex and the ghosts in the void, and the ultimatum comes down that it will be either Alex can leave and sacrifice her friends, or her friends can go and she will remain. It doesn’t close it, it just makes it bigger, and then traps Alex on the other side. Time to just use the radio again, except nope, things get even worse after using it on the source. Then it’s final confrontation with possessed Clarissa. Despite Alex wanting nothing more than to get away from there at once, I end up following Mirror!Alex’s advice this time and decide to let Jonas speak with his Mom, and he ends up getting poofed away into nothing. ![]() A tape player suddenly springs to life and Jonas thinks he starts hearing his Mom again (and I can hear a bit too). Once inside, I’m about to go into the final room and then that happens. Even though Ren’s staying cheerful, everyone else is just so uneasy in the picture they take right there… well being on the verge of total possession will do that to you! Nona went, “Er… okay?” and Jonas was all, “You know I’m going in there with you, right?” but it still felt right to do. It kinda made sense that Ren was the only really receptive one. Despite wanting to go around and find all the extras, I didn’t want to break the flow of the story, so I sent them in, but not before giving everyone a hug first, just in case. ![]() But they ended up getting together, so at least it was good for them too.Īnd then the finale, complete with a point of no return entrance. Mostly Jonas from what I could tell, but I ended up spending the whole game with him for reasons so no Nona or Ren time with Alex in this playthrough. It’s kinda crazy that everyone’s just rolling with it in the end. Oh look, Clarissa just hung herself suddenly, the ghost soccer ball exploded on that rock, Ren just died in 3 different ways if he and Nona go to the power station in the woods. ![]() (I wonder if it always is Clarissa who gets it…?) But then the time loops that happen always show the worst possibilities. When the group starts getting possessed it’s bad enough. This game is really good at being scary! Whenever the ghosts and the craziness with the tape players happens, it’s always unsettling. Time to get into it…įirst off, holy shit. I say this just because of how I am about spoilers of these things, and I think Oxenfree is up there with games that SHOULD NOT BE SPOILED for the best experience. If all you’re looking for is an impression of it it is up there. Okay, just as a heads-up, I’m getting into some big spoilers for the game after this point. I’m glad I got my graphics card worked out, because before I was having frame rate issues and things were moving slowly, but with it fixed I was able to enjoy the climax in full. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves adventure games or a good story. Though while it is pretty short, it was also an amazing game. It took me about 4 hours to get through it so I was only an hour away last time I stopped. While I was on a roll today, I finished Oxenfree. ![]()
